Submittal Requirements

First of all, we'd like to say that our consults are worth the money. You gain a lot of ideas, get instant real-time feedback and will have a much better idea of the possibilities inherent in your outdoor space that you can use to evaluate what you want to do.

These items do not apply if you're going through the normal process, starting with a consult or sketch consult. Please note that quotes will be higher than the typical prices listed in our web site, because we need to include at least one meeting with a site visit in the quote. It's never a good idea to design a space that you're never visited!

This does not apply to estate services, as these are done on an "hourly rate, not to exceed" basis and these things will be covered during a series of start-up meetings.

If you desire to have a design services quote but are unwilling or unable to arrange for an on-site consult, this is how we handle this type of request.

___

All of these items are required if you wish to have a quote for design services.

  1. Site survey showing current conditions, including topographic information, existing trees, site features and house footprint
  2. Architect's drawings of house showing floor plans and elevations, or an as-built drawing of all floors with exits with clear photographs of each elevation.
  3. Your budget. This is a reality check to make sure what you want to build is feasible within the amount of money you'd like to spend.
  4. Your name, address, and contact information

Your program. This is what you want to create in your landscaped area. It's a good idea to do this before talking to designers, because it will help you clarify issues.

We need your program in order to determine what kinds of drawings will be required.

The submitted program must include these elements:

  1. A list of things you want to do outside. You can use simple words like eat, entertain, cook, play, swim, grow vegetables, etc.
  2. The style you would like. This can be very specific, like "Moroccan", or more general like "match the style of the house and our decoration". It can also be eclectic, a mix of several styles or themes. Using terms like like rich, clean, baroque, natural, formal, informal, relaxed, geometric can also work. If you have a large area to landscape, you can mix styles and create transitions. The reason we ask for this information is because some styles require more detailed information than others.
  3. Level of sustainability. How resource conserving will the new design be?
  4. Design goals should be stated. This is where to put information like how you envision the circulation working, views to enhance or block, use of fragrance, blocking noise or making pleasant sounds, dealing with breezes, the amount of maintenance required, and other items not inherently linked to structures or installed features.

You can submit in digital or printed form, whichever is easiest. Our response time will vary according to our work load.

We reserve the right to return incomplete submittals.

We also reserve the right to refuse to submit a quote for any reason or none at all.

We will inform you if we're not going to get you a quote, of course.
